As workplaces change and more employees work outside the office, companies need more advanced Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions to manage more complex access requests.

In the case where MFA provides multiple layers of protection, adaptive multi-factor authentication can be used to assess the risks of the tools or information that users request to access by viewing detailed information such as user equipment and location.

For example, an employee logged in from a company location is in a trusted location and may not be required to enter another security certification factor. But if the same employee tries to log in to her personal phone at a coffee shop to view a work email or connect via an unsecure Wi-Fi network, she may be asked to verify other factors because she is using an untrusted location, device, or connection.

More importantly, adaptive MFA allows for dynamic policy changes and authentication upgrades while protecting critical controls on critical data. For example, the user may be prompted to provide a second factor of higher assurance (or even a third factor) before gaining access to depth sensitive information such as customer data in Salesforce.

Multi-Factor Authentication, MFA

It is a method of computer access control. Users must pass two or more authentication mechanisms before they can be authorized to use computer resources. For example, the user has to enter the PIN code, insert the bank card, and finally compare the fingerprints. Through these three authentication methods, the authorization can be obtained. This type of authentication can improve security.
